Closing an image returns you to the top of the page, not where you were before clicking on the picture in Firefox
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Load any page (tested on Wikipedia and Wikivoyage) that is longer than one screenful of information with thumbnail images after the first screenful (e.g. United Kingdom)
  2. View a section of the article at least most of a screenful down the page (either scroll down or follow a section link (e.g. "Health"), it doesn't make a difference)
  3. Click on any image thumbnail you can see to load it in the viewer
  4. Close the viewer to return to the article

Expected result

  1. You return to the same point in the article you were at before clicking on the image

Actual result (Xubuntu 18.04 LTS)

  • In Chromium Version 77.0.3865.90 (Official Build): As expected
  • In Konqueror Version 5.0.97: As expected
  • In Firefox 70.0 (64-bit): You return to the very top of the page.

Things that make no difference to the actual result:

  • Having an anchor in the URI
  • viewing multiple images before closing the viewer
  • the project

Reproducibility:
Every time for the last several days

It's an issue with accessing the page on Firefox 70.0. Reproduced with FF 70 on Win 7. Expected behaviour with FF 69.0.1 (64-bit) on Win 10. Upgrade to v70.0 on the Win 10 and reproduced the bug.

And to expand on the above, reproduced bug on both 32 and 64 bits Firefox 70.0.

No problem with Brave (Chromium), Chrome, or Opera, and no problem with FF 69.0.1 (64-bit) or FF 68.0.1 (32-bit).
