Video viewer menus may become unusable on mobile
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

Per the attached screenshot, when viewing a video on a mobile phone (android running Chrome on Samsung S8) in full-screen size, then attempting to change the selecting transcoding using the in-built button, the drop list is not usable, giving a massive blank space in the list display. The same file and list are shown in a second desktop screenshot where the options can be accessed.

It may be that the video viewer menu functions have not been tested as standard on these platforms.

Hi @Fae, thanks for taking the time to report this! For future reference, please provide a link that allows reproducing - see https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug . Removing Commons as this does not sound Commons specific (see its description).

Cannot reproduce in Chrome 78 on desktop on the mobile site as it uses the modern, non-fallback video player.

This is a compat problem with the old player; the new player mode is getting an update and should get merged soonish, and it's fully functional on mobile.

To give the latest version a whirl, try the samples on https://video-testing.wmflabs.org/ (in-progress patch beyond what's available through beta mode)
