Original Research Template does not display Talk Page link
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

The discussion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Original_research#Problems_with_template sums this up nicely. It would be expected that the template shows up a link to the talk page, but it does not. This occurs in all real-life use cases,

To add a the note about discussion on the talk page, the template must be provided a "talk" parameter, either a full page link, or just the section name, for any discussion. Otherwise, it is assumed that there is no discussion on the talk page, and no link is given. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Ambox#talk

You’ve misunderstood. See this real life use case of the template from just hours ago: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2019_Canadian_federal_election&oldid=926555828#Possible_Target_Seats . According to the documentation for said template, the template should read “This article possibly contains original research. Relevant discussion may be found on the talk page. Please improve it by verifying the claims made and adding inline citations. Statements consisting only of original research should be removed”. However, the “Relevant discussion may be found on the talk page” part is missing.

Off-topic on Phabricator. It's a local template issue. Somebody must have edited the template in question or have broken it somehow. Please discuss it on the relevant talk page.

Hi @Benica11, thanks for taking the time to report this and welcome to Wikimedia Phabricator!

On-wiki content like user scripts, gadgets, templates, custom CSS are local features and managed independently on each wiki. Phabricator is used for MediaWiki, MediaWiki extensions, or server configuration, or by developers and teams to organize what they plan to work on. In this case you could contact previous authors of local pages (see "View History") or discuss on a corresponding talk page. Thanks! :)
