We want to increase the database server performance, we need to increase the InnoDB buffer in the database configuration. In order to do that, we first need to increase the amount of RAM reserved for the database VM. There are 12 GB of unallocated memory on the host, that can be assigned to the VM. Additionally, we could reduce the amount of RAM assigned to the VMs hosting the fundraising application and the operation center.
Necessary steps:
- Switch the depending web applications to maintenance mode by running the [maintenance_mode](https://github.com/wmde/fundraising-infrastructure/blob/master/maintenance_mode.yml) playbook.
- Stop the OTRS Daemon (see docs).
- Create a backup of the databases.
- Shut down the database VM.
- Assign the unused RAM to the database server using the virtualization control panel.
- Boot up the database VM.
- Change the innodb buffer size in the database configuration file to 16 GB.
- Deploy the changes to the machine.
- Switch the depending web applications out of maintenance mode by running the [maintenance_mode](https://github.com/wmde/fundraising-infrastructure/blob/master/maintenance_mode.yml) playbook.
- Start the OTRS Daemon.
