Language section in navigation sidebar shows up even if empty
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

The "Languages" section in the navigation sidebar shows up even when empty, eg on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Version and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:TerraCodes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences

Its also "empty" on article pages that don't have any interwiki links in them (tho for some reason instead of showing nothing, its showing a grey link titled "italiano" and asks me to translate the page when I click on it)

Event Timeline

As far as I know this is intentional to provide access to language settings.

Closing per last comment.

Would it be possible to add a way to disable/hide it then? Maybe by moving the language settings into Special:Preferences with the rest of the preferences, or by adding a preference to hide the language sidebar when empty? Because I find it annoying thats its taking up space on my screen despite being empty and unless (since theres no languages in the section).

That is already possible: You can write your own custom CSS to hide it.

I could, but then I wouldn't have even created this task to begin with. I shouldn't have to hide something with CSS that should be fixed to begin with. (if its to keep its preferences accessible, then why isn't it with the rest of the preferences in Special:Preferences?)

That sounds like a separate request "Move access to language settings to Special:Preferences". Which would probably be T54383#4015867.
