Visual bug in VE when scrolling through an overflow table with a cell selected
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Edit en:2019 Albania earthquake in VE
  2. Select a cell in the table at the Subheading 1 "Earthquakes M ≥ 4.0"
  3. Then scroll with cursor inside the overflow table

Actual results:

  • The cell selection blue box and the column and row dropdown boxes do not remain aligned with the respective cell selected when scrolling

Expected results:

  • The cell selection blue box and the column and row dropdown boxes are aligned with the respective cell selected when scrolling, even if such selected cell is outside the element's box

Additional information

The table does use the div style <div style="float:none; width:58em; height:22em; overflow:auto; border:0px solid #088">

The Editing-team is not prioritizing overflowing of tables at this time

The page was edited since this task was filed and the table is no longer separately scrollable. The bu can be reproduced in the older revisions, e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2019_Albania_earthquake&oldid=928340639

I'll note that at least on English Wikipedia, scrollable things within articles are discouraged (I found https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Scrolling_list and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOS:SCROLL documenting this). They're particularly annoying for printing / PDF export, since the scrollable content gets cut off.
