Design a back-up campaign aimed at the community (FindingGLAMs Challenge)
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

In case we're not able to run the campaign as expected, a back up plan is to change focus and run a smaller campaign aimed at the Wikimedia communities (existing editors, not GLAM partners).

Think about what it could look like, and what tools we could use (old Monumental? Property coverage dashboards to visualize the progress?)

Event Timeline

Also have a look at existing Wikidata editing tools/gadgets to see what can be useful.

@Mrjohncummings and me to talk about this on Friday.

@SandraF_WMF If you have any inputs or ideas on tools to use, please share! :-)

Some tool ideas:

Takeouts from the meeting:

  • There are several alternatives for tracking progress. We should use more than one to get a good overview.
    • Alicia to look into Outreach Dashboard https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/. Good: this will be easy for people to join. Bad: for Wikidata it will count all edits, even in unrelated items, especially if the campaign lasts several days. While for Wikipedia articles you can limit the tracking to a category/list of articles.
    • Alicia to look into a tool that shows changes to a sparql subset. It exists so we should find it and see how appropriate it is to our needs.
  • @Mrjohncummings to look into Wikidata Tours and how useful they could be to us. The applicability would be for brand new Wikidata users. However there's no easy to find documentation on how to create/develop them. (T242489)
  • A good target group for the campaign are Wikipedians who maybe are vaguely familiar with Wikidata but have not edited there themselves. Those are easy to reach through the Wikipedia discussion pages
  • https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:John_Cummings/FGlists – example queries for items without Wikipedia articles/coordinates.

Penultimate week of February (Feb 17-23) is a reasonable timeframe, as discussed by @Lokal_Profil and me today.

Note, the lists at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:John_Cummings/FGlists are missing some languages and can probably be done in a less muggle way
