when hovering over cite extension, tooltip currently only shows page number
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

We got the feedback that when hovering over a footnote (for example [1.1]) only the page number is shown on the tooltip; the initial source is missing. This makes is complicated for the user to understand to which initial reference the cite extension is referring to.

Event Timeline

Is this comment based on the beta feature for hover tooltips, the now-common gadget for the same, or some other hover?

If the former, something to be fixed by WMDE I think. The second probably is a community fix though I'm sure you can help troubleshoot or suggest implementation. I'm not aware of a hover in the third case.

At the moment, this ticket is only about the Reference Previews feature developed by WMDE. We plan to create a separate ticket for the gadget when it becomes more relevant, and we are able to suggest a fix for the community to apply on the gadget.

@Izno We got this feedback from the wiki community after releasing the cite extension feature on the beta cluster. That is why tagged it with the 'Book-Referencing' tag in the first place.
