Description

Please allow translations of the OTRS release generator. Commons:Wikimedia OTRS release generator

It features in the OTRS movie, but sadly enough is only available in English. Video tutorial on how to submit media to Wikimedia Commons using OTRS

Event Timeline

EDIT: I mistakenly thought you were talking about the old standalone tool. That version is not configurable, but it is available in a couple of other languages, each requiring a different URL. E.g. https://tools.wmflabs.org/relgen/i18n/ru.php
https://tools.wmflabs.org/relgen/i18n/es.php
https://tools.wmflabs.org/relgen/i18n/uk.php

It also looks like there will not be updates to the standalone version of the tool, since it is now superseded by the on-wiki version, here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wikimedia_OTRS_release_generator

(benefiting from the wiki's built-in localization support)

So when localizing the OTRS training video, it would make sense to update/replace the interstitial in the video pointing at the standalone tool, instead pointing to the on-wiki version of relgen.

Thank you for looking into this.

https://tools.wmflabs.org/relgen/i18n/nl.php (Dutch) gives a 404, so it's not available, correct?

@Ciell - correct, nl is not available. The tool author indicated they do not intend to support additional localizations; they really want everyone to use the on-wiki version.

@Zoranzoki21 - I think you mistagged the ticket. This isn't about WMDE's Attribution Generator (helping people get the correct attribution for an existing file on Commons); this is a different tool helping people get correct release text for contributing files via OTRS.

I don't see any difference between the one on labs and the one on Commons, so I'm fine with using the Commons based one.

But if the tool author wants us to use the on-wiki version one: isn't 'localization' the same as translating? (sorry - I'm not a native speaker)
Because if we cannot translate it to Dutch, the tool is useless to us.

@Ijon Oh ok, my mistake. Sorry. Project added by creator of this task is archived, so it confused me.

Yes.

Removing Tool-Attribution-Generator and WMDE-TechWish as this is completely unrelated. And we don't really provide support for local gadget related tasks on Phabricator. Please translate the gadget and file an edit request on the relevant talk page.

Might be in scope for the Commons project in Phab, but I have no idea who defines/triages the scope of which tasks Commons folks want to track in Phab.

Nah. I just tagged it for tracking purposes. Translations should be done onwiki. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:FDMS4 created the gadget if I am not mistaken. And those want to translate it should ask him for instructions.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!
