User unfriendly user interface suddenly became the default (Wikimedia Commons)
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

As of a few weeks ago all user talk pages I load on Wikimedia Commons shows this interface. Prior to this the interface would only load like this if I was on "User:Example" and then clicked on "Discussion", but now it always loads by default. Is there a way that I can use the "wiki page" user interface back as the default?

Please see: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1e/Automatically_collapsed_user_talk_page_%2804_D._12_M._2019_A.%29.png

As an example. I can't seem to reverse this anywhere, is this exclusive to beta-Commons?

Hi @DonTrung, thanks for taking the time to report this!
Unfortunately this Phabricator task lacks some information. If you have time and can still reproduce the problem: Please add a more complete description to this task:

  1. A clear list of specific steps (and environment information) to reproduce the situation, as little details sometimes matter, so that nobody needs to guess how you performed each step,
  2. describing actual results, and
  3. describing expected results after performing the steps to reproduce.

You can edit the task description by clicking Edit Task.
Ideally, exact and clear steps to reproduce should allow any other person to follow these steps (without having to interpret those steps) and see the same results. Thanks!

Simply go to any user talk page on Wikimedia Commons, for example:

https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:AKlapper_%28WMF%29

This displays:

But before it looked more similar to this:

wp_ss_20191216_0002.png (2×1 px, 265 KB)

wp_ss_20191216_0003.png (2×1 px, 350 KB)

Also notice that there is no button for editing the entire section, only adding to a discussion. Another problem this adds is that if there is vandalism in a section you can't easily remove it either using this annoying user interface.

But before it looked more similar to this:

Thanks. Why is how a talk page looks a problem, or what is the actual underlying problem that you experience because of this design change?

Unfortunately closing this Phabricator task as no further information has been provided. After you have provided the information asked for in T240900#5746192, please set the status of this task back to "Open" via the Add Action...Change Status dropdown. Thanks!
