Viewing Santali and Javanese characters on SWAP via Chrome only displays Tofu signs
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Is there a way to resolve this issue? I'm currently working with Santali and Javanese data for GLOW.

Issue: Trouble viewing Santali and Javanese characters on SWAP via Chrome.
Instead of characters, I see tofu signs, due to Chrome's font fallback mechanism.

Are the characters correctly displayed on e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javanese_script ? (And what is "SWAP"?)

Hi @Aklapper, on my screen, I see tofu characters for the characters on the Javanese script page, essentially just boxes.

SWAP is a JupyterHub installation used for analytics on private data.

Is one the fonts listed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Multilingual_support#Javanese installed on your system (if you'd like to share information about your system, e.g the OS)?

@Iflorez: Could you please answer the last comment, if this is still an issue? Thanks :)

The image you pasted is a wikipedia page, do you have a repro scenario for SWAP?

@Iflorez this sounds like an issue with your browser and or installed fonts.
