Feature: Real-time Echo notifications
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

I'm reading a wiki page.

Someone leaves me a new talk page message.

With Echo installed, I would expect to see a notification about this immediately. I would expect it to update the number of notifications, and possibly also some indication that the number has recently changed (difference in color, background, etc).

At the moment this does not occur. I have to refresh the page, or navigate to another page, before I learn of the new message.

@Gryllida: How is this different from T113125? If this is different, does this task depend on T113125?

@Aklapper it is different in that I would prefer the notifications to be displayed on the web page without sending out a push notification.

For instance, if I am currently using another tab which is not a Wikimedia project, then a push notification would disturb me, but a change of display of the web page would only remain in the Wikimedia projects tabs and I would only see it when I switch to them.

Please let me know if this makes the difference clear, and whether you consider this a valid feature request.
