From the design documentation for the theme: Your theme works best with an image with a header size of 1920 × 1080 pixels — you’ll be able to crop your image once you upload it for a perfect fit.

The blog could also use a number of images to feature on static pages.

File size: Bandwidth: See T201041 + T235601 for inspiration. Your web browser's developer tools show the size (use a cold browser cache). Happy to help / review.

I don't understand that sentence at all. :) What is a "header size"? These dimensions sound like an entire computer screen to me, ignoring mobile devices...

@Aklapper I just copied and pasted the documentation for the blog's theme. I didn't write it ;-)

Recommended image sizes

Size nameSize parametersTheme usage
Thumbnail size:420 × 0, scaledIn posts list. You may want to rise this image size if you set posts to display in 2 columns.
Medium size:744 × 0, scaledNot used in the theme.
Large size:1200 × 0, scaledIn single post or page.
modern-intro:1920 × 1080, croppedIn intro section.

modern-intro: serves as a background image, so it makes sense to me that it has pretty large dimensions.

Page load on current alpha website is 1.32MB (okayish), 0.9MB of that are for the background image (hmm, hmm).
