Make sure COVID19 page to be readable on all form factors
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The community has been working with templates to make the corona virus pages readable:

From @Doc_James:

I think we have it formatting fairly well on mobile / desktop / and the app but can we get some tech folks to review to make 100% sure?

From DocJames: The other thing we are trying to do right now is balance formatting against accessibility. We have scrolling but not sure how it works wire screen readers. We need a button that expands the scrolling maybe?

After a glance through today, it looks good to me on mobile web with only one exception - that template mentioned in T247702 which is used in the 2019–20_coronavirus_pandemic#Epidemiology section. See feedback in T111565#5913602

One big thing I'd like to see to make the page more readable on mobile: enable the Collapse Infobox Top template to work on mobile, so that readers don't have to scroll through all the less significant maps before getting to the content.

@Volker_E is the COVID 19 article readable on screenreaders?

@Charlotte is the COVID 19 article readable on Android?

They don't have to be perfect, just readable.

@Jdlrobson is there a possible fix for just the COVID 19 page, or is it necessary to resolve all of T247702: Format table in coronavirus article?

@Abit It actually is readable in screenreaders, yes! Both, on desktop and mobile, within the current limitations of code provided in each of the default skins, Vector and MinervaNeue.
We've further investigated together with the American Foundation for the Blind the usability of the table of contents show/hide functionality T243126 in this context for screenreader users – but that doesn't impact general article readability.

Yes @Abit it's readable, at least on the devices I've tried it on. Not perfect, but readable.
