Reinforcement: analysis of thanks for newcomer
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

As we work on positive reinforcement, it would be interesting to look at how often newcomers in our target wikis are thanked for their edits, and whether it seems like suggested edits generate substantial numbers of thanks. We could also look at whether thanked newcomers seem to be active after receiving thanks.

We may be able to use code or ideas from the Research team's investigation on the efficacy of thanks (though this did not focus on newcomers or suggested edits): https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Understanding_thanks

We answered some of these questions in Thanks usage analysis, and a closer look at Thanks will be part of T328057: Leveling Up: experiment analysis. Therefore I'm going to decline this task as it's essentially a duplicate of other planned work.
