WMF to possibly have a meeting with Bitergia to discuss bigger long-term plans
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

From a meeting between @Jrbranaa and @Aklapper last week.

We have wikimedia.biterg.io provided by Bitergia; see https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Community_metrics for more info.

We were wondering how open upstream might be about aggregating data from further sources / accepting further data backends, plus related visualizations. More like "plugging in further systems" than "let's create this dashboard" level. Platform/product scope etc.

Code health (in WMF's case SonarQube).
CI logs.
(And allowing to identify patterns in that data.)

Potential other interested people could be: @thcipriani, @Jdforrester-WMF, @WDoranWMF.

We could also consider having a face-to-face training or shared meeting on "support questions"/general feedback, if WMF collects some topics and questions beforehand, e.g. unclear stuff or some fields which might not be clear (painless_delay). For example T245854.

Event Timeline

Aklapper triaged this task as Low priority.

(Note to myself: Potential short-term thoughts of mine include T242905, T242964, somehow find a more automated way to update/merge accounts/affiliations.)

Aklapper changed the task status from Open to Stalled.Apr 10 2020, 5:02 PM
Aklapper lowered the priority of this task from Low to Lowest.
Aklapper added a subtask: Restricted Task.

Random ideas of mine:

  • On Gerrit > Efficiency dashboard, go through Review Efficiency Index and Lead Time and potential how to use that?
  • Going to Gerrit Approvals and filtering on status_value:"-1" I get a number of Changesets but zero approvals and zero Reviewers listed. Probably because indexes consumed by dashboards contain different types of documents (comment, approval, patchset and changeset) so this filter cannot be applied? Wondering how to make that general concept more transparent and obvious, as I think this can confuse quite some users. Covered on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Community_metrics#Behavior_that_might_surprise_you but not sure how many people find and understand that.
Aklapper renamed this task from WMF to possibly have a meeting with Bitergia to discuss bigger long-term plans to WMF to possibly have a meeting with Bitergia around June 2020 to discuss bigger long-term plans.May 7 2020, 11:17 AM
Aklapper raised the priority of this task from Lowest to Medium.
Aklapper updated the task description. (Show Details)

Another potential topic: A sane and recommended way how we can manage our custom widgets and dashboards (C_*), and link them from the top bar, as I'm reluctant to create separate dashboards with a "random" collection of custom widgets that would thematically fit better on other existing default dashboards, but even more reluctant to fork existing default dashboards and then having to manually include potential upstream updates into the forked dashboards.
This is what has not made me resolve the task T224760 yet, basically.
I admit that I have not checked yet if there are any docs on best practices.

This collided with reality (annual planning grabbing a lot of resources). Punting to next quarter.

Makes way more sense to do in the next quarter, after some requested stuff has been implemented by Bitergia.

I think we sneaked this in at the end of the meeting that we had on November 18th, 2020 when it comes to code health monitoring aspects.

We can still have another meeting about this and/or use support time, but the "longer term" aspect was covered last week I'd say.
Birgit, Jean-Rene and Andre should be aware on the Wikimedia side of things.
