Transition non-wikitext talk pages to wikitext talk pages in order to gain access to DiscussionTools
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

As @Samat raised in T245794#6013464, there are some talk pages that use Flow or LiquidThreads as their discussion interface.

This means, people using talk pages with these discussion interfaces enabled, will not be able to use DiscussionTools features.

This task is about migrating said pages to wikitext talk pages.

Open questions

  • What talk pages on which wikis are people requesting to be transitioned to wikitext talk pages?
  • What evidence do we have to support a given community's decision to migrate non-wikitext talk pages to wikitext talk pages?
  • What is an easy way for people at local wikis to transition non-wikitext talk pages to wikitext talk pages?

Done

  • The "Open questions" above have been resolved

Event Timeline

The question is whether users of such talk pages will gain anything from the talk pages project. With the currently active initiatives, they won’t: an inline reply feature is already available in both LQT and Flow; the new section feature is way more prominent in them than on wikitext talk pages; while the signature requirements will affect LQT as well without any transition (Flow doesn’t have traditional signatures, so it’s not a concern there at all).

The question is whether users of such talk pages will gain anything from the talk pages project.

Great point, @Tacsipacsi.

So you're aware, this is not a task we intend to prioritize until there is a clear reason to do so.
