Steps to reproduce
Go to the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic in the United States article
Turn on dark or black mode
Scroll or use the TOC to navigate to the Statistics section

Expected results
Map legend is legible (uses black text or has a black background)

Actual results
Text is displayed as white on white

The issue is introduced by the TemplateStyles for the gallery template, specifically:

.mod-gallery .whitebg img {
	background: #fff !important;
}
.mod-gallery .gallerybox div {
	background: #fff !important;
}

Forces the background to be white. Removing those styles would fix the issue but I'm not sure why they were aded in the first place. @Johan what's the best way to proceed with making a change to these styles?

@JoeWalsh Sorry for the late reply. Writing on the talk page, explaining the problem, and pinging the person who introduced the change to see if there was a specific reason for the change would probably be the best way forward.
