Description

Documentation: https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/News/Toolforge.org

The "soft deadline" is slated for May 31, 2020. We should try to get this done by then.

I moved this from the 'ready' column, since this is the parent ticket. The child tasks have been moved to the ready column.

Note to those working on this -- if the on-wiki docs link to the full URL of old location, just change it to [[toolforge:name-of-tool]]. This uses the interwiki map system which is meant to prevent link rot. Note that right now, the toolforge: prefix still produces links to the old URL scheme because the interwiki map hasn't been updated yet (presumably it will once everyone has migrated to toolforge.org)

From what I know, @bd808 has built this so it will now link to iw.toolforge.org/* instead of tools.wmflabs.org/*

The tool will redirect iw.toolforge.org/test/abc to test.toolforge.org/abc

This is due to limitations of interwiki.

Oh, good to know. It does seem weird to introduce yet another redirect... now I'm a bit torn. Before the interwiki map was the preferred route, but now it needs to route through another tool first. That tool doesn't have any application code, so not as big of a risk of it breaking, but still odd to have to rely on it... hmm. I'll ask at T247432.

Yes we will keep interwiki links to tools working. Yes to do that there will be a tool acting as a redirector. The only way to avoid that is somebody rewriting the interwiki map code in MediaWiki. If y'all want to tackle that, have at it.

Looks like we're done here
