Commons categories not linked to any wikidata element no longer display in side menu 'In Wikipedia Edit links'
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

On https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Queenstown-Lakes_District you do not find anymore in the side menu the link 'In wikipedia Edit links' as this category is no longer linked to any wikidata element.

Biut a few days ago this menu point was still available and made it possible to link a commons category with this menu option directly to articles in other wikimedia projects.

I am aware that it is possible as a workaround to log into wikidata an create there a new corresponding item but this is much less userfriendly.

Another exemple for the same issue is: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Raymond_McLeod (I am aware thath this category on commons might be deleted as it contains no files)

Thanks for the report!
I'm not sure which link we're talking about exactly. Was there a custom link that Commons added? Maybe @Mike_Peel can help me?

If you go to e.g., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_McLeod (which isn't linked to Wikidata yet), there is a section 'Languages' with a button 'add links' in the bottom of the left-hand sidebar. That used to be present on Commons as well, but it seems to have vanished.

Ah ok that part. Thanks!
Interesting. Investigating.

T252800: Regression: Option add links in other languages has disappeared seems to be the same issue, and given that that task already has Gerrit changes attached, let’s merge this one into that one, though this one was created earlier.
