Consider an expanded view of the Wikimedia portals
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

At the moment, portals are a rather strange entry point, without any interaction. The user has nothing to do on this page. I think it’s necessary to add some new features to the portal.

Proposial

  1. Add a standard registration and login form. This will also allow you to bind some settings, for example, display only certain wikis. Or change the language.
  2. Add advanced information about the selected wiki. The page opens with a slide to the left. There should be some statistics on this page: title, year of creation, number of articles, number of views, the most popular article. You can also add a watchlist and mention.
  3. It is also worth adding a small description of the project, basic rules and requirements, for example.

Something like this may be. We show the basic statistics about the project, take information from the https://stats.wikimedia.org/#/en.wikipedia.org. We also show the most read articles, as this is popular information; I used iOS representation.

This task lacks a rationale, apart from "because we can" which is never very convincing.
All of this sounds out-of-scope and part of it like unnecessary duplication (why duplicate stats? why would I care when some website got created, on this very page?), especially if nobody plans to spend time and money to maintain the additional code complexity plus configuration overload ("basic rules and requirements"?) for many years to come.

Proposing to decline this task.

As written in T159596, the portals are is mostly maintenance mode and not resourced to add new features.
