№ (Special Character)
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

This is a special character that is not usually used in English or European countries (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numero_sign). WPCLEANER sees it as an error and recommends it be corrected to (No.) I have been editing a couple articles (mostly in ships {HHM, HMS, etc.} is where I typically find it used, and typically in references. Since a majority of articles are in the US and EU English domain, should they be put in for the autocorrect or removed. I had a couple US articles reverted because I removed “№” per WPCLEANER and made it “No.” as suggested by the program. Is this the correct way to do it or can do you have a list of articles that exempted from this policy? I’m not sure how flexible the program is or if I can even add my own things to it (however I know some programs I use will overwrite that with an update. Thanks🛳

@Bakertheacre

This is coming from Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Typos (in the New additions section):

<Typo word="NUMERO" find="№" replace="No." />

WPCleaner is using this list made for AWB. I think you should bring your concern to the talk page.

Thanks @NicoV I actually found out later it is not allowed on en Wikipedia.
