LOOMIO decision making software (also for discussing and concensus)
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Reasoning: I joined Meta about 9 months ago and several working groups, user groups and projects... As a cultural organizer, activist and community worker I was amazed how little is in place to facilitate and support decision making or even discussing in focused and easy to access way. I think there is too much space for improvement and much of it is urgent as people are dropping out of activities due to lack of flexible protocols and established methods. With pandemic fatigue and recent issues around rebranding I think this peaked. Therefore ...

Proposing: Urgent work on providing support via services that can support this like Loomio can. It is FLOSS and originating from activist movements + managed by coop, so it perfectly matches the ethos of wiki culture.
For more info check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loomio and www.Loomio.org

Notice: I do not have a good understanding of how new services are tested, started and adopted, but posting this as I feel it needs to be done as soon as possible. Feel free to edit and change whatever you find fitting.

Neither do I think Phabricator is the place to discuss this.

Maybe meta?

@Zblace: why is this tagged with Cloud-VPS and Service requests? It's one or the other.

Maybe meta?

I can not judge well, but what is the normal procedure if one wants to test a new service on WMFlabs infrastructure?

I do not see how this would be informed discussion on Meta if there is no way for all to test use it?

Then I guess you're asking for a Cloud-VPS project?

I could not really tell which and how *as I noted at the end of my proposal)...

Well, Is it a volunteer managed VPS running on cloud services infra you want or something part of WMF Production?

I have no good overview of infrastructure options, but sure - yes.

Tagged it as such. Please see https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/view/2875/ and update the task with the information it lists as needed.

I can not do it myself so it needs to be seen by others and hopefully adopted by someone who can...
Think it is an urgency for WMF to have something like this.

Then you need to ask the community if it's something they want and are willing to maintain. Closing as declined, I encourage you to ask on meta if anyone is actually interested.

I think you might be assuming both the technical knowledge and technical overview of how WMF infrastructure works that I do not have.

It's the whole community process as well.

Fair, but then is it not chicken-and-egg situation?
Why is it not possible to have status pending for at least few days?

Because this isn't the format to discuss it.

This is called "Stalled" and not "Declined".

Removing Cloud-VPS (Project-requests) tag. If this gets to the point that someone actually wants to test deploying the software they need to use the process and task format documented on the description page for that phab project.

(Removing Design Research tools and infrastructure as per its description. Also removing task subscribers added without an obvious reason (please avoid).)

I don't see how this task is stalled, by definition. I'm going to decline this task. The conversation here implies that one specific tool is being proposed (for unclear reasons why this one, after which requirement analysis and which other considered options?), and more important it is unclear how this would fit into and interact with existing tools and venues in the Wikimedia communities ( https://xkcd.com/927/ and https://xkcd.com/1810/ come to my mind).
Plus we still lack information who (apart from the task author) would like to use this tool. :-/
