Deploy Extension:Moderation on ary.wiki
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Hello,

As part of the implementation of T257674, the community is kindly asking for the deployment of the Moderation tool to prevent vandalism from IP addresses and new users, especially that the project once published would be vulnerable to such edits, since this has been already noticed in the Incubator.

Thank you in advance.

The well-established extension FlaggedRevs cannot be deployed on newer wikis, which forces us to opt for viable alternatives (including Moderation).

@Reda_benkhadra: Deploying a new codebase on Wikimedia servers will require numerous reviews first.
Please see and follow https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Writing_an_extension_for_deployment - thanks a lot!

Declined, for several reasons: ary.wiki is a really new wiki, with only a very small community, and those tools are generally not deployed at those wikis. Moderation extension isn't currently approved for deploying at WMF wikis, as it was not tested for security or performance issues. This process is described at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Writing_an_extension_for_deployment, in case you're interested. FlaggedRevs is a very sophisticated extension and is really really difficult to properly configure _and_ maintain, and as such, very few wikis (next to zero) adopt it today.

@Aklapper and @Urbanecm: Thanks for the clarifications.
Seems that AbuseFilter will be our resort to avoid bad edits, given the unavailability of suitable extensions in our case.
