Edit a sentence: Show feedback when updating the translation
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

As part of the "Edit a sentence" step (T251928) of the Section Translation mobile editor, users will be able to modify the initial translation with Mobile Visual Editor. Saving the changes will show feedback to communicate the wait to the user and to increase awareness about how much the initial translation was edited.

Event Timeline

A participant on the early feedback about Section translation at the test server mentioned as a missing aspect progress information such as "your translation contains xx% of unmodified text" which this ticket is related to.

Change 705609 had a related patch set uploaded (by Nik Gkountas; author: Nik Gkountas):

[mediawiki/extensions/ContentTranslation@master] SXEditor: Add animation feedback on suggested translation edit

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/705609

After a more detailed discussion about the technical aspects, it seems the actions in this step are immediate. So instead of presenting the information as a loading step it makes more sense to use it as a feedback (confirmation + gratitude) message.

Based on this I propose to adjust the messaging to be:

Thanks!
Learning from your corrections…
X% edited by you

We can also adjust the time to show the message for 2 seconds.

I can't see the percentage of the change, is this ok?
