Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hello! Here is my overview:

*The blog post will be an interview inquiring WMIL's motivation and experiences in creating the tutorial https://wdqs-tutorial.toolforge.org/ for the Wikidata Query Service.

  • The topic type therefore is Interview with technical community members
  • The audiences can be people interested in learning SPARQL and also community members who want to make their own documenation/tutorials etc.
  • No assistance needed in interviewing and writing, but as an editor I also really appreciate being edited :)
  • No specific date needed, but in fall 2020 would be great.
  • Thank you!

Event Timeline

@Elisabeth_Giesemann_WMDE Looking forward to reading/editing the first draft once it is ready!

Hi Elisabeth -- great! Thank you! I will take a look at this week! Looking forward to reading it!

@Elisabeth_Giesemann_WMDE I think this post would also be a good post for the Wikimedia Diff Blog: https://diff.wikimedia.org/ because it is appealing to both tech and nontech audiences. If you want to publish there as well, you'll need to go through their submission process: https://diff.wikimedia.org/editorial-guidelines/

In the meanwhile, I will go ahead and edit this and prepare it for publication in the Technical Blog.

I also just left a note on the doc to ask if you just want me to correct the direct interview questions for grammar or if I can make some changes to the wording for style and conciseness?

@Elisabeth_Giesemann_WMDE I have taken an editorial pass at this. Can you take a look and accept or decline the suggestions?

Dear @srodlund,

thanks for the great edits, I accepted all of your suggestions :) On October 29th it will be eighth birthday of Wikidata, so Keren asked if it could be published by then. Do you think that's possible?

I'll also have a closer look for the publication of the Diff Blog, thanks!

All the best from Berlin,
Elisabeth

@Elisabeth_Giesemann_WMDE Yes!!! I'm going to move the post over to the blog for final edits to publish this week or early next week, so it will be up well-ahead of Wikidata's birthday :-) I'll leave a note here when it is published!

@Elisabeth_Giesemann_WMDE -- a couple of questions.

  1. Should I credit both you and Kern as authors?
  2. I'm going to use the image of the front page of the tutorial for the featured image for the post. I plan on crediting it as the author's own work under a CC BY-SA 4.0 license. Let me know if this should be something different.

Hello @srodlund,

great thanks! I talked to Keren, she says yes to both of your questions. Her full name is Keren Shatzman.

Great! I plan on publishing this on Monday!

@Elisabeth_Giesemann_WMDE This is published: https://techblog.wikimedia.org/2020/10/19/the-query-service-tutorial-for-wikidata-an-interview-with-dr-keren-shatzman-from-wikimedia-israel/

I usually post announcements on Twitter but want to make sure you've had a chance to look this over to make sure it is all correct before I do so. Also, let me know if there is anything you'd like me to include in the tweets or anyone you want me to tag.

Hello @srodlund ,

awesome, looks great, thank you!

I just realized one thing: Since Keren is asking for feedback, and it takes a few clicks to get to an email address on the tutorial page, you could write at the end of the post something like: "If you want to give feedback to Wikimedia Israel, on the tutorial, please write to wdqs@wikimedia.org.il.

For Twitter, I think it would be lovely to tag Wikimedia Israel @WikimediaIL and you can of course also tag us @wikimediaDE.

Thanks again and all the best,
Elisabeth

• srodlund claimed this task.

I added a note to the post and also posted this on Twitter: https://twitter.com/wikimediatech/status/1318608899713372161

I'm going to resolve this ticket now. Thanks again for sharing this post. It was great to learn about the tutorial!
