Translation could potentially break things, but is analogous to the existing translation feature in desktop Chrome which I don't think we're seeing bug reports over.

We mostly don't want it to translate anything that's being edited. So:

  • Visit an article page
  • Translate it to another language
  • Click to edit
  • Make sure the text we're editing is the original untranslated text
  • Make sure the diff we produce only contains the intended changes

Also:

  • Visit an article page
  • Click to edit
  • While editing, toggle translation on (or on then off?)
  • Make sure the text we're editing is the original untranslated text
  • Make sure the diff we produce only contains the intended changes

It's worth looking specifically for pages where there's uneditable parts of the page -- things which we suppress contenteditable on so you have to use inspectors. (Templates?)

All that should happen in wikitext and visual modes, of course. I'd expect that if any issues occur, they'd be in visual mode.

@ppelberg: Checked for new regressions for VE on iOS 14. The only issue found was the crashing issue T264376.

It seems that the Translation feature added to Safari is not available for everyone. At least I don't have it on my device. So maybe we can check that later?
