Support ordered lists with Arabic, Ol Chiki (Santali), Meetei (Manipuri), and N'Ko numerals in core
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

Core MediaWiki already defines ordered lists for non-Western numerals in i18n-ordered-lists.less: Persian, Hindi, Odia, and a few more.

However, we need a few more, but they don't have standardized list-style-type values. These writing systems are Arabic, Ol Chiki (Santali), Meetei (Manipuri), and N'Ko.

It's possible to do this using CSS @counter-style. When I first reported this task, this only worked on Firefox, but now it works in Chromium, too (upstream Chromium bug). I nevertheless added this to Common.css and Mobile.css in the Wikipedias in these languages, because it's better than nothing. Eventually it should be moved to core.

Amire80 renamed this task from Support ordered lists with Ol Chiki (Santali), Meetei (Manipuri), and N'Ko numerals in core to Support ordered lists with Arabic, Ol Chiki (Santali), Meetei (Manipuri), and N'Ko numerals in core.Feb 12 2021, 1:48 PM
Amire80 updated the task description. (Show Details)

There is demand for this also in the Arabic Wikipedia (discussion). I updated added the description accordingly.

Change 703062 had a related patch set uploaded (by Amire80; author: Amire80):

You mentioned N'Ko language as well in the task, but the patch only implemented the other two. Does it also need a patch?
