2020 English fundraising messages in iOS app
Open, MediumPublic

Description

Hi iOS app team! We would like to run fundraising messages in the app once again to coincide with our end of year desktop and mobile web fundraiser.

Dates: 30 November - 31 December
Language: English only
Countries: US, CA, GB, IE, AU, NZ

It's fine to keep the same designs and functionality from last year (T235447) but we do have some slight updates to the text and an updated donate link.

US

To all our readers in the U.S.,
It's a little awkward, so we'll get straight to the point: Today we humbly ask you to defend Wikipedia's independence. 98% of our readers don't give; they simply look the other way. If you are an exceptional reader who has already donated, we sincerely thank you.
If you donate just $2.75, Wikipedia could keep thriving for years. Most people donate because Wikipedia is useful. If Wikipedia has given you $2.75 worth of knowledge this year, take a minute to donate. Show the volunteers who bring you reliable, neutral information that their work matters. Thank you.

CA

To all our readers in Canada,
It's a little awkward, so we'll get straight to the point: Today we humbly ask you to defend Wikipedia's independence. 98% of our readers don't give; they simply look the other way. If you are an exceptional reader who has already donated, we sincerely thank you.

We'll be able to track clickthroughs on the fundraising side, and I believe that tracking impressions can be done through EventLogging the same as last year.

Please let me know if there's any questions or anything else that I can help with. Thanks!

Change 638181 had a related patch set uploaded (by Cooltey; owner: Cooltey):
[mediawiki/services/wikifeeds@master] 2020 English fundraising messages in apps

For whoever picks up this ticket, the patch I created also updates the iOS app donation links. Please let me know if you see any issues.

Change 640484 had a related patch set uploaded (by Tsevener; owner: Tsevener):
[mediawiki/services/wikifeeds@master] Return recent versions for iOS 2020 fundraising announcement

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/640484

Added 1 more patch for this one - the more recent versions of the iOS app only recognize announcement platforms iOSAppV3 or iOSAppV4 (see WMFAnnouncementsFetcher.m filterAnnouncementsForiOSPlatform method). Without this patch the recent apps will filter the fundraising 2020 announcement out before displaying it.

It would be ideal if we could get this patch into production early next week (11/16) for testing.

This is ready for QA now. This also opens up https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T267064 to be tested.

Looks good to me on 6.7.3 (1786) on phone and tablet with the device date set to 11/30/20

Hi, since it's a short week I just want to double check that this is on track to launch on Monday?
