Description

Hi Sindhi numbers showing in sindhi wikipedia page history, sections of articles, we are requesting English numerals instead of Arabic-Sindhi numerals. Thanks

@Kaleem_Bhatti: Same on https://sd.wikipedia.org/wiki/خاص:ڀاڱيداريون/KaleemBot , so this is not mobile specific.

If I understand your first comment correctly, you see Sindhi numerals on Sindhi Wikipedia. Why should you not see Sindhi numerals when you are on Sindhi Wikipedia? Why do you expect Arabic numerals?

So this is a report about the 'size of diffs' of revisions as shown in the history of an article, using the Mobile web interface.

@Kaleem_Bhatti reports that he sees Sindhi number notation.. He implies that he expects to see English number notation. He has not made clear why he has this expectation. The format mirrors the behavior of the desktop version of the website and it is our custom to always use local number notation in any language and we do so in other areas of the page.. If he wants English, he can switch the entire user interface of that specific wikipedia, from the preferences of the desktop version, and everything (other than the article content) would be using English.

Actually problem is that Perso-Arabic-Sindhi numerals (i.e. ۰, ۱, ۲, ۳ and so on) which are showing everywhere on Sindhi Wikipedia (recent changes, article sections numbering) are too small to view and these numerals ( ۱, ۲, ۳) are not widely used nowadays, so we prefer to see English/Roman numerals (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and so on) every where on entire Sindhi Wikipedia (i.e. recent changes, articles section numbering).

Huh that's weird.

sd language has no digitTransformTable set. It also has no fallback language set (I guess fallback to english)

Oh i see, we now use NumberFormatter (backed by CLDR data - https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/main/sd.xml#L4810 ) if digitTransformTable is not set.

In addition to the actual digits, should the thousands separator continue to be ٬ or should it be a comma , like in english?

Similarly, should the decimal point be a ٫ like in arabic, a period like in english . or a comma , like in lots of european countries, or something else?

I'm going to assume that you want , for thousands and period for decimal like english, but please confirm.

obviously 0123456789 digits are preferred than Arabic digits ۰۱۲۳٤٥٦۷۸۹ not only on Sindhi Wikipedia but in daily usage in Sindh, Pakistan by people. And these ۰۱۲۳٤٥٦۷۸۹ digits are not commonly used and looks too small on the sdwiki to comprehend. So we've gone through the consensus on sdwiki and requested to replace ۰۱۲۳٤٥٦۷۸۹ with 0123456789 on entire site.

I'd request changing defaultNumberingSystem from arab to latn for Sindhi language (sd), as that's the request if I get it right. I don't think that the Unicode Consortium cares about "Arabic numerals on some website" specifically and that's what the title currently says. :)

We're Still waiting for this request to be accomplished and problem be resolved.

Hello, Arabic Sindhi digits are still showing up on the entire site of Sindhi Wikipedia, these Arabic-Sindhi digits are hard to understand we requested you to kindly replace existing Arabic-Sindhi digits with English digits i.e. 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, because these Arabic-Sindhi digits are not readable and understandable. We've been waiting since a long almost more than a year and had requested you to kindly replace them with English digits, so therefore it's humbly requested kindly fix it as soon as possible. Thanks
