Keybindings for strikethrough and computer code collide with system's screenshot functionality on macOS
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

Command + Shift + 5 and Command + Shift + 6 are the selected keybinds for StructuredDiscussions on macOS (on Chrome). However, these two keybinds are already mapped to macOS's operating system built-in screenshot functionality. Therefore, you can't use Cmd + Shift + 5 and Cmd + Shift + 6 to induce strikethrough/computer code formatting if you're using a Mac.

Perhaps it would be better to emulate what Google Docs has done and change the strikethrough keybind to Cmd + Shift + X, and maybe for computer code, Cmd + Shift + C?

Upon further inspection, this seems to be an aspect of StructuredDiscussions taken from VisualEditor. Adding VisualEditor to this bug.

@JeffreyWang – thank you for making us aware of this. So you're not left wondering: it is most likely that we will look at this sometime next calendar year.

And out of curiosity: what was it you were wanting to screenshot in StructuredDiscussions (if you're comfortable sharing, of course)?

Thank you @ppelberg!

Sure no worries, happy to answer that question. I noticed this issue while trying to use the keybinds to add computer code/strikethrough on StructuredDiscussions. I wasn't trying to screenshot anything, but when I pressed Cmd + Shift + 6, my Mac took a screenshot of my Touch Bar instead of adding computer code formatting to my content as I expected it to.
