Display autonomousSystemNumber (ASN) instead of autonomousSystemOrganization
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The infobox is currently displaying the organisation name instead of the ASN:

We do have the ASN, and the field name and our design mockups (T269766) suggest that's what we really want to display, i.e.:

@Prtksxna Is it correct that we prefer the second one?

Yes, the ASN field should show the number.

What is the organization name? Is it a slightly different way of showing the ISP or can it be drastically different. I don't have it anywhere in my mocks, it might be something that I've missed.

Change 654265 had a related patch set uploaded (by Tchanders; owner: Tchanders):

@Prtksxna What do you think about keeping both the name and the number in the ASN field?

Do you mean ISP name or Organization name? Is there an overlap here?

@Tchanders explained to me that the ASN is a registered number of the ISP. So places where we have the ISP name, the ASN won't be as useful.

Someone might still use it to disambiguate between Airtel Bangladesh and Airtel Ghana (I don't really know if they'd have different ASNs, I am just guessing they would since this seems country specific). In cases where there is no ISP an ASN can help find the ISP. I think there is a case to be made to always show it, or at least show it when we don't have the ISP name. I hope to find out more in our usability tests :)
