New user welcome bot on the Konkani Wikipedia
Open, HighPublicFeature

Description

I was considering to use Pywikibot/welcome.py to welcome new users to the Konkani Wikipedia (gomwiki). Since the Konkani Wikipedia uses Structured Discussions (Flow) as standard for all talk pages, I wanted to know whether welcome.py works with Flow pages? Could welcome.py be configured for the Konkani WIkipedia?

Some background: There was a bot on the Konkani Wikipedia using the ID User:New user message that placed the template Welcome on the talk pages of new users. This seems to have been created by User:Sushilmishra (now inactive). This bot stopped functioning properly after Flow was implemented in the Konkani Wikipedia in March 2016 and then stopped working completely in January 2017. It could be useful to investigate how this bot was implemented and whether it could be reactivated or whether it still needs to be deactivated completely.

welcom.py is not localized for gomwiki. @The_Discoverer: Could you please have a look at welcome.py netext dict and probably the others too. What is the right message to be written on new users talk page?

The message that should be written for gomwiki is '{{subst:welcome}} %s' (the same as the English Wikipedia).

Extension:NewUserMessage was the system that provided the automatic welcomes instead of a bot, But was disabled due to not working with Flow, Looks like its been forgotten about since 2018 T131957: NewUserMessage should handle Flow properly; affects gomwiki/Konkani Wikipedia and kabwiki

@Peachey88, thanks for that clarification.

Thanks @Xqt. Will welcome.py work with Flow user pages? All user talk pages in the Konkani Wiktionary are in Flow.

@Xqt , I will set a bot up and report here.

@Xqt, it appears that welcome.py is not working with Flow user talk pages. I set up a bot (tool discobot on ToolForge, User:DiskoBot). When User:DiskoBot made its first edit on the Konkani Wikipedia, welcome.py seems to have done nothing.
