Provide guidelines for the community on working with external experts re: Abstract Wikipedia
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

What is the problem?

There are a number of topics for which Abstract Wikipedia would benefit from the input from and discussion with experts. There is traditionally no low-touch process for experts to provide their input. We cannot expect that many experts, whose contribution would be beneficial, can simply be told "join the Wikimedia community".

Particular topics are in the space of natural language generation, linguistics, lexicographic knowledge acquisition, functional programming, cross-programming language interoperability, computer-aided software engineering, democratization of programming, etc.

How can we help you?

Figure out previous examples of engagement, what went good, where were the challenges. Co-create with the community a plan for Abstract Wikipedia how to engage with experts.

What does success look like?

Community accepts the plan, which leads to engagement models with experts that are helpful for the project as a whole.

What is your deadline?

By March 2021 would be nice, by the end of the year would be a hard deadline.

It seems to me that the “guidelines” envisaged are not “for external experts” but for us: “guidelines on working with external experts for the Abstract Wikipedia team and community” (or guidelines for [us] on [that]).

Nick, do you want to declare this Resolved? Obviously on-wiki documentation will always evolve…
