Request creation of "maps-experiments" VPS project
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Project Name: maps-experiments

Wikitech Usernames of requestors: jgiannelos, mbsantos

Purpose: Maps infrastructure improvements, beta cluster for development.

Brief description: We are planning to deploy some services for experimentation in order to improve our current map stack.

How soon you are hoping this can be fulfilled: In this quarter

Notes

  • We are currently using another CloudVPS project that our team had access to called "entity-detection"
    • For housekeeping reasons we can migrate off the other project and use the new one dedicated to maps
  • Given the amount of geospatial data we are going to load the currently common flavours are not enough. Ideally we would like to be able to spin off a machine with 1TB storage.

Can we have a flavour that will let us use all the resources on a single machine ? (8 vCPU/64G RAM/1 TB Disk)

Event Timeline

Unfortunately we already have one maps project: https://openstack-browser.toolforge.org/project/maps

Please choose another name :-P

Ok, lets use "maps-experiments" instead

The project is now created with default quotas, which should be able to get you started.

On the topic of the custom flavor, I'll take a look at RAM resourcing to maybe set up a flavor like that, but the disk gives me pause. We are working on rolling out an attachable storage setup very soon (possibly this quarter), which would be more appropriate for such a volume than baking it into the flavor. However, we have to look closely at the availability. I'll start poking things.

Ok, now there is a new flavor set up that is the size requested without the very large storage. We have added an attachable volume service that might be suitable for that kind of thing with more room for us to reason about how we are sharing out disk.

If you definitely need a large disk, please make a separate task so we can help set that up.

Sounds good, thanks @Bstorm. I verified that I have access to the CloudVPS project and I can see the VM flavours.
