Chromium Version 87.0.4280.141 (Official Build) snap (64-bit)

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Goto https://te.wikipedia.org
  2. Open a page to edit in Visual editor mode
  3. Select input keyboard option as Inscript
  4. cut paste కయించిన
  5. Try to change to క్షయించిన by positioning cursor after క and typing letter 'd'(్ ) and then letter '<'(ష) (Telugu characters are shown in parentheses)

Actual Results:

  1. You get క్యింషచిన (after momentarily seeing క్యించిన)

Expected Results:

  1. You should get క్షయించిన

Repeat the steps in the bug description with editor in Source mode and you will get the expected result.

Source editor in Telugu Wikisource (https://te.wikisource.org) also has same problem.

I think this behavior change in Wikisource happened in the recent three- six months.

It's a bit unclear to me how to properly change to that input method, but I think I can reproduce:

  1. I use Chromium 87 on Linux.
  2. I am logged in on te.wikipedia.org
  3. I go to https://te.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=పాంబండ_రామలింగేశ్వర_స్వామి_దేవాలయం&veaction=edit
  4. In the sidebar on the left, click the 'cog' icon next to "Languages"
  5. Choose "Input"
  6. Make sure the "తెలుగు" button is selected
  7. From the list, I select native keyboard
  8. Click "Apply settings"
  9. I set the input method on my Linux system to Telugu instead.
  10. Copy కయించిన to your clipboard
  11. Set cursor at beginning of text
  12. Paste text కయించిన from clipboard
  13. Set cursor after క
  14. Press keys d and < on keyboard.

Can you reproduce the problem in Firefox? Currently I don't think this is a bug in Wikimedia code so far, but in the web browser's input engine itself, but maybe I made some wrong steps?

@Aklapper , Thanks for reproducing the bug. I checked in Firefox 84.0.2 snap and non snap versions of Ubuntu and found no problem.

If you cannot reproduce either then I'm afraid this is a bug in Chrome based browsers themselves, which cannot be fixed in code on the website server.
