Thanks for reporting this! I admit that I have also seen this before from time to time but have not found a pattern yet...
Yes, observed it too - several times. I was not able to find specific steps to reproduce the issue, although it seems that some wikis display the issue more often than others.
Here are the steps when the issue happens (I'm almost sure that the issue occurs for some different scenarios too).
- Login to one of the wikis - e.g. French wiki - the icons are loaded and displayed normal.
- In the address bar, start typing meta.wikimedia.org and select the suggested address (assuming that one of the metawiki pages has been visited previously).
The Login page will be briefly displayed, then changes to the page that was in the address and the Echo notification badges icons would be displayed broken:
Happened to me today again at hrwiki, but now there were 5 icons instead of 3 or 4, so it seems it's different on every wiki.
Thanks, @Moson81! The issue is not reproducible in our testing environment, although it's consistently reproducible in production following the steps that I described above.
It'd be great if you can provide more info on the following questions:
- which browser do you use?
- do you use Incognito window?
- do you log out form one wiki and then, log in into a new wiki?
@Etonkovidova
I use Google Chrome. I don't use Incognito window. And yes, it happens when I log out from one wiki, log in on that wiki and then go to another wiki (sometimes it's needed to start editing in VisualEditor for repeating symbols to appear). After I refresh the page, the symbols appear normally.
