Jumping back up from a reference lets NVDA read the whole paragraph again
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

When I use NVDA screen reader with Firefox in reading mode and...

  • ... read through an article with wikitext
  • ... click a reference link in the text
  • ... jump down to the reference section
  • ... jump back up again using the backlink

The screen reader...

  • ... does not focus the related reference link in the text
  • ... starts reading from the beginning of the paragraph where the link was found

This behavior seems quite broken. I would expect, that the screen reader continues reading/focusing from the position of the reference link in the text.

Tested with NVDA on Firefox.

Event Timeline

This might be an issue with this specific screen reader. Technically the backlink already does jump back to the position of the reference link in the text. It's hard to tell what's going on without more manual testing, ideally with more than one screenreader.

Unrelated note: This ticket is very closely related to T194511: Highlight the jump mark letter where you came from (#6 2017). Both aim to make the connection between the numbered link in the text and the reference at the bottom easier to see and to follow.
