Description

As a member of the Brand Team, I would like to raise awareness around diverse historical figures by adding portraits to pages that don't have them yet. I need a list of 200 most viewed pages about historical figures that don't have an image depicting them. This data can probably be extracted from Wikidata Query Service.

  • English Wikipedia only for this request
  • "historical" == deceased
  • ranked by number of views
  • article is unillustrated

AC:
Add one list each in a new tab of Black historical figures for each of the following:

  1. people born in Africa
  2. people born in The Caribbean
  3. Australasian indigenous people
  4. people born in North America

Hey @Miriam do you think you could take a look at this? What information would you need that would be helpful?

Hi @Mstyles I can take a look at this on Friday!
If it is easy for you or @dcausse, having the Pid/Qid pairs corresponding to the four filters required would be very helpful:

people born in Africa
people born in The Caribbean
Australasian indigenous people
people born in North America

people born in Africa

SELECT ?item ?itemLabel ?itemDescription WHERE {
  ?item wdt:P31 wd:Q5 ;
        wdt:P19/wdt:P361* wd:Q15 ;
        wdt:P570 ?ignored .
  SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "[AUTO_LANGUAGE],en". }
}

people born in the Caribbean

SELECT ?item ?itemLabel ?itemDescription ?countryLabel WHERE {
  ?item wdt:P31 wd:Q5 ;
        wdt:P19/wdt:P17 ?country ;
        wdt:P570 ?ignored .
        {?country wdt:P206 wd:Q1247 ;
                 wdt:P31 wd:Q112099 .}
        UNION
       {?country wdt:P361 wd:Q93259 .}
  SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "[AUTO_LANGUAGE],en". }
}

this query works but you should also be able to use https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q669037 for the list of Caribbean countries

Australasian indigenous people

SELECT ?item ?itemLabel ?itemDescription WHERE {
  ?item wdt:P31 wd:Q5 ;
        wdt:P172/wdt:P279* wd:Q170355 ;
        wdt:P570 ?ignored .
  SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "[AUTO_LANGUAGE],en". }
}

https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q170355 is for Australian Indigenous people
you can use https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2065556 for Pacific Islander people, but I don't think that is limited to Indigenous people only

people born in North America

SELECT ?item ?itemLabel ?itemDescription WHERE {
  ?item wdt:P31 wd:Q5 ;
        wdt:P19/wdt:P361* wd:Q49 ;
        wdt:P172/wdt:P279* wd:Q817393 ;
        wdt:P570 ?ignored .
  SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "[AUTO_LANGUAGE],en". }
}

I'm assuming we want people from the African Diaspora in North America and I think any data we have for that would skew American.

Feel free to ping me if I left something out!

Thanks SO much @Mstyles !
@MPhamWMF I ran Maryum's queries, joined it with the newest list of unillustrated articles from enwiki, then computed, for each article the total pageviews in the month of January 2021. I updated the spreadsheet with the lists of unillustrated articles for the 4 groups of people, sorted by pageviews: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FFCqwo0XsC6jJG3t7CGMhhOuzY9IQpNQTVyW8IbCNRM/edit?usp=sharing

Please let me know if there is anything else you would like us to add or modify.

Thanks so much @Miriam and @Mstyles! This looks amazing. The item description column was super helpful as well, so thanks for adding that.

I just sent it off to Tas, and will be in touch if there's anything else to change.
