Yes, it is great that A in X can be B in Y. But not that Talk:A in X can be Talk:A in Y, it should be Talk:B!!!

Event Timeline

Indeed, users pressing "Discuss" would be confronted by a totally different discussion pagename. "I am trying to discuss B, but I end up discussing totally unrelated A. Nowhere even before hitting Discuss is there the slightest hint that B is somehow related to A."

"If B is a great name for a page, why can't it continue to be a great name for the talk page?"

Or: "On the talk page, at least put a warning about what is going on."

Chinese Wikipedia has an feature to convert title to specific Chinese variant which may be customized.

It seems likely indeed that the language converter is at play here. Perhaps something in OutputPage, Skin or Vector has accidentally started to invoke it on this message and/or on this page.

Can someone familiar with the language and article confirm whether these titlese are "totally unrelated" or indeed likely result of the page's language conversion applying unexpected? That is, if this title were to be mentioned in the article text somewhere, would it be possible that one of them is the source form and one of them a converted version of one of the zhwiki's language variants?

Does this happen in multiple skins, or only on Vector?

Does this happen only when viewing the article, or also in other contexts like action=history, =edit, or =info?

The titles being differnt (for e.g., movie names in different markets) is totally resonable. The problem is the total decouple that happens before the user's eyes when hitting the Discuss button. At least a "Redirected from ..."-like little blub should appear. Welcome to expand my shell script to test for other &parameters.

@Jidanni OK, so to confirm, the only mismatching that you observe today is where talk pages use the unconverted version of the title? We do not have issues like articles about "Mango fruit" linking to a discussion page with "Eiffel tower" in the title, correct?

Do you believe this is a bug that was perhaps recently caused? Or is it likely that it has always worked this way in the past ten years?

Bingo.

And as I rarely comment on movies or songs, perhaps this is the first time I noticed it.
