@Volker_E Wanted to bring this ticket to your attention since it's about changing an OOUI component. Our plan is to make the template dialog search results match the way the new vue search component works, bolding the non-matching terms to make it easier to scan (currently in OOUI the term itself is bolded instead).

Do you think this is better for us to implement as a one-off change in the template dialog or should this be upstreamed to the component itself? And if the second, is there any additional process needed?

Change 688275 had a related patch set uploaded (by Awight; author: Awight):

[mediawiki/extensions/VisualEditor@master] [WIP] Invert template search result highlighting

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/688275

Thanks @ECohen_WMDE! Is “helps to highlight and scan the differences between the results” coming from user research?

Thanks for the quick reply @Volker_E - I was following the pattern set by @alexhollender in the changes to the general search (added a screenshot below for reference). We didn't do any of our own usability testing to confirm quicker scanning, but after trying it out, it felt like a helpful improvement to carry over. Maybe Alex has additional references about how the decision was made for the new search component?

we did not test this. Instead we followed two inputs:

  1. what we saw on other popular search engines
  2. the logic that it would be more helpful to highlight the unique part of the search result, rather than the common part
