Replace sata cables for cloudvirt1024
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

We are seeing a big number of UDMA CRC errors on that machine:

dcaro@cloudvirt1024:~$ sudo smartctl --all /dev/sda -d megaraid,0 | grep UDMA_CRC_Error_Count
199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 0x003e 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 10533

Compared to a similar machine:

dcaro@cloudvirt1023:~$ sudo smartctl --all /dev/sda -d megaraid,0 | grep UDMA_CRC_Error_Count
199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 0x003e 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0

And we are seeing some errors that might be related to disk issues.

It seems that those UDMA CRC erros might be caused by faulty/loose sata cables.

Thanks!

Event Timeline

Just to clarify, I'm not sure how the raid controller is setup, or which cable is failing so we will need to replace all of them (unless someone can pinpoint if/which one is misbehaving).

Replaced Failed Hard drive.

Hi, can you confirm the hard drive that you replaced? Did you replace just the cables? (that's ok, but as you mention a hard drive I'm not sure).

Thanks!
