It is so nice that I see tasks like this one after so long time. :)

I'm going to make a patch, and it should be deployed on Monday.

Wonderful, thank you so much!

Best,
Lynne

Change 665474 had a related patch set uploaded (by Zoranzoki21; owner: Zoranzoki21):
[operations/mediawiki-config@master] Add a throttle rule for for edit-a-thon

Kizule moved this task from Backlog to To deploy on the Wikimedia-Site-requests board.

The ranges you have includes contain over 1,300 IPv4 addresses, that is ~15 IPs per estimated attendee. I'm not comfortable raising the per-day account creation cap for each of those addresses to hundreds for multiple days. How will they be divided between those addresses? What other users do these IPs have?

Aklapper renamed this task from Request for temporary lift of IP cap for edit-a-thon to Request for temporary lift of IP cap for edit-a-thon (2020-02-24 - 2020-03-05).Sat, Feb 20, 2:16 PM

Note per whois, all of 157.182.0.0/16 and 72.50.128.0/18 is assigned to West Virginia University. That decreases the risk a bit (than if it was a range of some regular ISP), since there is only a limited number of users who can legitimately connect from university IP addresses.

Thanks for these informations, I will try to fix the patch.

@Urbanecm Could you please take care of the deployment of the patch, I won't be available until Saturday 27th?
