Steps to reproduce:
- Using the Android application, log in to an unblocked account, but be sure your device is connecting through a hardblocked IP address.
- Attempt to save a page
Some sort of message explaining that the IP address is blocked and the user should stop using a VPN, or request ipblocked-exempt status, or whatever the local community wishes.
Once I got a big wall of unparsed wikitext that looked like one of the "blocked proxy"templates was being expanded, but not parsed any further. But on every other IP I tried, it was just "Your user account has been blocked from editing on this wiki" (emphasis added).
This will alarm the user, and mislead them into thinking they've been blocked personally, when it may just be that some LTA is using their ISP, or they forgot to turn off their VPN.
Tested with: Android 9, app version 27.50341-r2021-02-02
Orbot was used to provide a limitless supply of blocked IP addresses.
