Clarify that CC0 on Wikidata only applies to the Item, Property, Lexeme and EntityScheme namespaces on https://dumps.wikimedia.org/legal.html
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

currently, https://dumps.wikimedia.org/legal.html makes it seem like all of Wikidata is under CC0 however, content not in the Item, Property, Lexeme or EntityScheme namespaces is under CC BY-SA 3.0 instead (see Wikidata:Licensing). This should be changed to clarify what namespaces it applies to.

Event Timeline

If you or anyone else would like to write a patch for review in Gerrit, see https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Gerrit/Tutorial - the file to change is modules/dumps/files/web/html/legal.html in the operations/puppet repository.

Change 730243 had a related patch set uploaded (by Dylsss; author: Dylsss):

[operations/puppet@production] Dumps: Clarify licensing for Wikidata and update various links

@Dylsss thanks for the contribution however this will require sign of from someone responsible for such legal statements. unfortunately I'm not sure who that is. CC @ArielGlenn and @RStallman-legalteam who may be able to help

If the legal team signs off on it, I can certainly merge it through. I'm not qualified to give a thumbs up or down on the legal changes though.

Where are we on this? Can we get someone from Legal to have a look?

Thanks and so sorry I missed this before. I have reached out to a couple of team members to take a look.

Hi all, signing off here for the legal team. Yes, you can go ahead and change the dumps licensing description to more closely match the wikidata licensing page linked in this thread.

This is now live. Seeing nothing else left to do on this task, I'm closing it. Thanks everybody!
