Spanish Latam donors seeing English survey
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

We are seeing a number of Spanish speaking donors say they didn't respond to the survey as it was in English, but looking by their donation in Civi, they donated and received the TY email in Spanish, so we are assuming landed on the Spanish TY page.

There are a few of these, so it feels like something is up, but we are unable to replicate and so we are unsure how they are seeing the survey in English. Perhaps an issue with es-419?

Examples:
ZD 942185 / CID 27984307
ZD 943118 / CID 20756693
ZD 945407 / CID 2429385
ZD 942476 / CID 20726334

(there are more if you need them).

Event Timeline

@krobinson would this be the survey on the TY page or something else?

@KHaggard @MNoorWMF @TSkaff @Pcoombe FYI. Have there been any surveys emailed by the email team? Has the TY page survey been updated recently?

@DStrine TY page survey only - no surveys sent through email recently and no TY page survey updates recently. I've checked the es-419 and es TY pages and the survey links are correct and in Spanish for each. I'm seeing new responses come in for the es-419 survey.

Per slack this is the TY page survey. The donors have not mentioned that the Ty page is in english so it might just be the survey. Fr-tech can't do anything with this. It's possible survey monkey is geolocating them incorrectly.

Reviving this phab task as Latam donors are (again) complaining they are seeing an English survey.

Looking at David's comment, could it be that Survey Monkey geolocates them, and it's affecting the language? Do we know how that works, and is there any workaround for this?

#1130932 / CID 28177283 is the latest one I've seen, but there have been others (donor donated in Spanish, TY email in Spanish, so should have landed on the Spanish TY page and seen a Spanish survey, if any).

Hi @krobinson, from my understanding, SurveyMonkey doesn't geolocate on its own - it just picks up the geolocation from the donation flow. If they see a Spanish TY page and click the survey, it should bring them to a Spanish survey because each link is unique.

Here's the es-419 survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HYQ3RJP
It seems to be working when I click the button here: https://thankyou.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thank_You/es-419

So I can't replicate the issue. When I log into SM, it's showing response activity is active, with 22 responses that came in today so far. So, it seems like the Spanish survey is working and being completed by some donors.

@krobinson Could it be possible that the donor's browser has some kind of extension that is translating the page by default (like Google Translate)?

Thanks @KHaggard
We have asked for feedback on these and will let you know if donors confirm that to us (as we had the same idea). We have only seen this in Latam, and now 2 years in a row, so something does feel wonky, but as we don't have anything to go on and cannot reproduce, we'll just keep monitoring it for now.
