[S] More details link in MediaSearch on mobile goes to desktop site
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MediaSearch?type=image
  2. Search for anything, e.g. "cat"
  3. Click on any result to bring up quick view
  4. Find the "More details" link and notice that its URL goes to the desktop site

Expected behaviour:
The link should correspond to the site the user's on (i.e. desktop -> desktop, mobile -> mobile).

@nettrom_WMF: @Seddon noticed that this matches the same behaviour on mediaviewer where the canonical url is used (commons.wikimedia.org) on mobile. If you are on a mobile device, it will take you to commons.wikimedia.org but redirect you automatically to commons.m.wikimedia.org.

Is the redirect insufficient from your point of view? Or were you not seeing the redirect? From my POV, seems like since this is consistent behavior and mobile users still see the mobile site, this task can be closed - but I want to make sure there's not something I'm missing.

Thanks!

Tested this in Firefox on my phone and it redirects just fine to the mobile site there, so it looks like this only happens if you pull up the mobile site on a non-mobile browser because then the redirect doesn't happen. Closing this as declined.
