Pulsating OCR onboarding UI
Closed, ResolvedPublic3 Estimated Story Points

Description

Context:
As a newcomer to Wikisource,
when I log onto the editor view of a book,
and I see the OCR language options appear,
I see a pulsating UI blue dot,
so that I can click on it and understand what OCR means and why it's useful.

Open questions:

  • Are we using the guided tour extension?
  • Re-leverage the pulsating component from the growth team.
  • The pulsating dot does not include the pop up
  • The ticket will have to combine the pop-up ui + pulsating ui
  • Guided tour with hidden preferences -- re-leverage what the growth team did.

@nayoub could you attach the OCR image here (the purple boxes around text)? Also, does it need to be translatable?

@Samwilson Unfortunately we won't be able to use that image as we don't have the rights for it and we can't use images with text. I'll try to find another one we can use and post it here.

Okay, no worries. I'll start work on the other bits of this and use a placeholder for the image.

Testing Performed:

  1. Verify pulsating icon feature shows for new users only as per visual reference
  2. Pulsating feature does not show existing users(cleared browser cache to verify that)
  3. Feature is browser compatible - Firefox, Chrome, Safari, IE
  4. Verify pulsating feature loads when user interface language reads right to left.

@Samwilson, I saw the following two issues, while testing. I would like team advice. We can meet to review it if need. Thank you.

This looks like a MediaWiki-extensions-CodeMirror compatibility issue: that extension is setting the z-index of the toolbar. We'll have to go higher! :) Can you create a new task for this please?

Sorry, not sure why I asked you to! :) I've created T285451 (and will work on it now).

Test case:
● Verify pulsating icon feature shows for new users only as per visual reference
● Pulsating feature does not show existing users(cleared browser cache to verify that)
● Feature is browser compatible - Firefox, Chrome, Safari, IE
● Verify pulsating feature loads when user interface language reads right to left and browser compatible also.

OCR Version tested:
Wikisource Version: – – (6e0e39d) 05:35, 25 June 2021 GPL-2.0-or-later

Feature has been tested, outstanding issue is tracked in T285451
