Metrics Platform: Define & Model Standard Metrics "context attributes"

Description

Goal: Define the standard fields and data that should be consistently collected across instrumentations.

Impact:

  • Creates a shared understanding of common fields, what they mean, and how they are populated
  • Makes it easier to analyze data across instrumentations without needing to be an expert on the schema.

Success Criteria:

  • Identifies common data points collected across majority of instrumentations
  • Datapoints are clearly defined in an easy-to-understand way for newcomers
  • We clearly align on how to populate/generate/calculate data points
  • Context attribute fields are modeled in schema format and tested

New context attributes may be defined during future work. If so, then I'd expect that work will include updating the client libraries and all documentation.
