Doesn't add uncategorized when some hidden categories are present
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

AWB genfixes doesn't add uncategorized when some hidden maintenance categories are automatically added by templates.
For example, see Andrew Barnsley, Anna Chybisova Aleksandrovna, Appasaheb Marathe, North Hill House School, Natalia John, Peter Karl Christoph von Keith, Pracheen Chauhan, Rejoice Iwueze, Rahul Haridas, Robert Orlando, Toby Romeo, Tom Bell (actor), Usage data

Event Timeline

@GoingBatty First two pages have now been deleted. I checked the third and fourth and page versions on/before date this ticket was raised had existing normal categories so wouldn't have needed uncategorized at that time.

The tagger logic for uncategorized will first look at categories on page, and if zero of them use API call for actual category count for only non-hidden categories, then filter out stub and proposed deletion categories. If still zero categories then uncategorized can be added. So AWB should be doing what you are asking for, please provide a current example if you still think there is a problem.

@Rjwilmsi - I think most of the issues were either:

 1. AWB was trying to add categories, and I was skipping the article if AWB wasn't adding uncategorized
 2. The article had a malformed comment that needed to be fixed

The only article I can't explain is List of cities in Europe by sunshine duration.

Thanks!

@GoingBatty For List of cities in Europe by sunshine duration the Tagger code for adding uncategorized requires the page to have more than 6 words outside of templates and comments. As this page is almost entirely a wikitable (which we count as template) then there aren't 6 words, so no uncategorized tagging.

@Rjwilmsi Thank you for the explanation. Please check the update I just made to Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/General_fixes#Tagger_%28Tagger%29.
